I have only seen one of these. It was in the swamps of Southeast Arkansas in 1942 or 1943. I was 9 or 10 years old and spent a tremendous amount of time out in the swamps and on the bayous; spring, summer and fall. I have searched the net to confirm the size of this bird and can find it nowhere. I have always thought that it was about 2 feet long from bill to tail and maybe 3 feet from wingtip to wingtip.

The original carving for "Arkansas Encore" was created by well-known Illinois carver Bob Guge who has signed each of the 1,250 individually numbered woodcarvings. These carvings are less than half the size of the live bird, believed to be extinct for over 60 years, but now thought sighted in central Arkansas. Measures 15" from the table top to the top of his crest and 11" from tail to beak tip. Weighs 1 lb. 12 oz.
