William Henry® Kestral
with Typhoon Damascus & Mammoth Bone
An A. G. Russell™ 100 Piece Exclusive
First fossilized Mammoth Ivory and then Mammoth Tooth became very desirable
for knife handles. Over the past few years, we have seen a few handmade
knifemakers use Mammoth Bone. This material varies widely in its appearance
because bone starts out very absorbent and easily picks up color from
the minerals in the soil where it has laid for thousands of years. Unlike
ivory, which will usually have color on the surface (bark), Mammoth Bone
will have absorbed the color through the entire thickness.
Matt Conable at William Henry® Knives has begun to use this material
in some of the exquisite knives his company produces. The bone that he
has chosen for this A. G. Russell™ Exclusive is relatively subtle
in tone and color and may range from the soft gray in our photo sample
to a rich cream. The knife is the William Henry button lock Kestral with
a Titanium frame and a 2-3/16" Devon Thomas Stainless Typhoon Damascus
blade at 58-59 Rc. Measures 2-3/4" closed and weighs 1.3 oz. Made
in the U. S. A. Includes a black shark leather ClipCase.
