Hanwei Folded-Steel Performance Series Iaito
(Drawing Version)
Iaido is a Japanese martial art associated with smooth, controlled movements
of drawing the sword from its scabbard, striking, cleaning the blade,
and then replacing the sword in the scabbard. Today a blunted metal sword
called an Iaito, is typically used for practice. Most are made of an aluminium-zinc
alloy, which is often cheaper and lighter than steel, and meets the Japanese
legal requirement that restricts the manufacture of swords.
Hanwei's Iaito (designed for Iaido drawing practice) features a blade
that is unedged for safety and forged from steel for more precise weight
and balance than an aluminum blade can offer. It is also maintenance free,
providing a lifetime of practice without worry of rust or tarnish. Genuine
Same (Rayskin) on the Tsuka, with a tightly-woven cotton wrap (Tsuka-Ito).
The long tang is double-pegged for security. The fittings are decorated
in a Japanese Dogwood motif with dragon menuki, and the handsome Tsuba
is of an iron "sunburst" design with a brass habaki. Built for
Martial Artists.
The 29" blade has a handle that measures 10-1/2" with an overall
length of 40-1/2". Point of balance is 5".
