My first automobile was a Chevrolet, a 1931 coupe with rumble seat and a six cylinder engine. I could not get it over sixty mph down the steepest hill in the area, or over thirty on the way up the hill. It had a hundred or two hundred thousand miles, I'm no longer clear which, in the twenty years before I owned it. While the body and frame were almost tank-like in their sturdiness, the engine was worn. Still it got me to school and to my job at Douglas Aircraft, and it served me well until I enlisted to go to Korea. Well, I never made it to Korea and have never owned another Chevrolet. I find that odd. I have bought a lot of cars in the past 53 years and I've looked at the old Power Wagon and the newer Suburban and Yukon, but always ended up with Ford or Dodge. I have to wonder what kept me from owning some of these great cars. If you are like Goldie and I, you could not afford these cars when they were new but we sure lusted after our favorites.
