The original was crafted by the manufacturer's grandfather, who immigrated to America in the early 1900s, bringing with him a love for traditional Italian dishes. Without common Italian kitchen tools, Enrico Ratti created by hand his own hard cheese grater for the cheeses used in those Italian dishes he loved so much. His graters were so well made that many are still used by the Ratti family today. One became the inspiration for this handsome box cheese grater. Handcrafted from sustainable Malaysian acacia wood with finger joint seams for strength and durability, it is then coated with a food-safe lacquer finish. Built with a removable drawer that collects and dispenses the cheese and also serves as storage for the second insert when the grater is not in use. Includes two 18-8 stainless steel arched grater inserts suitable for soft and hard cheeses. A unique foot stop allows the user to stabilize the grater against the edge of countertop or table. Wooden parts should be hand washed and hand dried. Stainless steel graters are dishwasher safe. Measures 10-1/4" x 4-1/2" x 3-1/4" and weighs 2 lbs. 6 oz.
