When Don Goin, a Southwest Missouri native and an oil painter for 40 years, decided to create in bronze, he did not do it half-heartedly. Creating in bronze had long been a dream and at the age of 50 he decided to make that dream a reality. After studying the art of casting from books and consulting with a practicing bronze artist, he set up a shop from scratch. He creates a clay model in his studio and casts a mold. The bronze work - a 32 - step process - is carried out in a barn behind his house.
Goin has been intrigued by wildlife all his life. The Cape Buffalo, with its majesty and fierceness has captivated him. In this piece, he portrays a Buffalo in repose, but attentive to something that has caught his eye. The detail is amazing. Solid bronze. Measures 5" tall from table top and 9-1/2" from horn to rump. Weighs 8 lbs. 13 oz.
