The tsuba is a hand guard created for a Japanese sword. It was meant to keep the user's hand from sliding up onto the blade, to help counterbalance the weight of the blade, and to communicate the social standing, beliefs and tastes of its owner. While an important part of the sword, the tsuba itself has become a highly sought after collectible.
Historically Tsuba were made by craftsmen whose only craft was making them and were often made of, or finely decorated with, precious metals. Japanese families with samurai ancestors often had their family crest crafted into a tsuba and passed heirloom tsuba from one generation to another. While Tsuba are made in a variety of metals, we have chosen a beautiful stainless Damascus for this simple but elegant money clip. Measures 2" x 7/8".
