Many years ago both the Army and the Marines wore a sturdy leather belt around the waist on the outside of their jacket. These belts were called Garrison Belts. In those days there was a high level of esprit de corps. If members of one regiment overheard members of another speaking unkindly of their unit, a fight was sure to ensue. Often the heavy leather garrison belts were wrapped around a fist with the square brass buckle used as a flail. The belt would protect the fist and the edges of the belt and the buckle itself would do awful, but not deadly, damage to the opponent's face. Until the late 1950s, perhaps into the 1960s, the Garrison belt was prized by young men and teen-aged boys to hold up their blue jeans. At about that time it became almost impossible to find these belts.

We recently found a company that is making an authentic Garrison belt in the United States of a quality that rivals those I remember from my early years. The workmanship is superb and the leather is genuine English Bridle Leather, tanned for density and strength. At 1-1/2" wide this belt is a bit narrower than the original, making it a rather wide dress belt and an almost ideal belt for blue jeans of any brand. Mahogany color with a brass buckle.
