The material is actually a sedimentary stone formed from deposits at the bottom of ancient seas that covered parts of Asia over 50 million years ago. Those deposits were full of small marine animals that have been preserved in Fossil Stone, which is mined and carved by local craftsmen into items such as these bookends, bowls and other items.

Solid, and polished to perfection, each hand shaped bookend displays unique impressions of marine fossils embedded in rich brown and gray stone. Measures 6-1/4" high and weighs 3 lbs. 3 oz. (each). Heavy and tall enough to support even large table top sized books. What an interesting and elegant way to display your favorite books!
