Gaétan is an extremely talented knifemaker and one of the most celebrated scrimshanders in the world. Unlike most scrimshanders, his favorite material for a canvas is water buffalo horn. The polished black surface is a perfect background to showcase the exotic animals that are the subjects of much of his work. This technique consists of making very small perforations or lines in the surface of the horn with a very fine needle, very similar to the way a tattoo is done. The artist then applies ink or oil paint, which fills in the scratches or lines, completing the design. Over the past few years, we have offered several of Gaétan's hunters with images of big cats, some with the full body of the cat and some with a close up of the face. During the A. G. Russell™ Knife Event at the end July, we arranged for him to complete a few knives featuring a tight close up of a Tiger's Eyes. The image appears only on the mark side of the handle. The other side is highly polished black water buffalo horn. Very stunning.

The 4-1/2" saber ground drop point blade is ladder pattern stainless Damascus by Mike Norris at 59-60 Rc. The bolsters are mirror polished, engraveable 416 stainless steel and the handle scales are high polished black water buffalo horn beautifully scrimshawed in extraordinary color. Measures 9-1/8" from tip to butt and weighs 6.9 oz. Ships with a leather pouch style sheath. Knife and sheath are handmade in Quebec.
