Russells For Men

This is a companion book to the 20 historical novels written by Patrick O'Brian about the 19th century British Royal Navy officer Jack Aubrey and his surgeon colleague Stephen Maturin. Beginning with Master and Commander in 1970, Patrick O'Brian has stayed closer to the way things were than Hornblower's Forrester. I was raised on Forrester, and find the O'Brian novels a little slow. Nothing, however, is slow about this book. It is loaded with illustrations of the ships and their parts, rigging, weapons and maps for each of the novels. This is a book for those who have read the novels or anyone who is interested in naval history and what the ships and men were like. 10-3/4" x 10-3/4". 160 pages. Hardcover. I highly recommend this one.
