I have only seen one Ivory Billed Woodpecker. It was in 1942 or 1943, when I was nine or ten years old and spent a tremendous amount of time in the swamps and on the bayous of Southeast Arkansas. The Ivory Billed Woodpecker is the second largest woodpecker in the world, and the largest in the U.S. measuring about 20" from bill to tail and about 30" from wingtip to wingtip.
Perservere is based on an original carving by master carver Ken White. He has inspected and approved each of the 1,250 individually numbered woodcarvings. These carvings are less than half the size of the live bird, believed to be extinct for over 60 years, but now thought sighted in east central Arkansas. The bird is carved from sugar pine and the base is cast resin. Measures 17-3/8" tall. Weighs 2 lb. 12 oz. Handcrafted in the U.S.A.
