The Snow Leopard is legally protected as an endangered species. Native to the mountain ranges of Central Asia, they have long thick fur with a base color that varies from smoky gray to yellowish tan with whitish fur underneath and dark gray to black open rosettes. Their long flexible tail helps to maintain their balance in a habitat of steep and rocky cliffs and is covered with especially thick fur, which minimizes heat loss. Reclusive by nature, they are mostly active at dawn and dusk and are rarely seen in the wild.
