John Trumbull's Declaration of Independence is often described as the "signing of the Declaration of Independence", when in fact it is the depiction of the five-man drafting committee presenting their draft to the Continental Congress. Commissioned in 1817, purchased in 1819 and placed in the Capitol Rotunda in 1826, this oil-on-canvas painting represents one of the most pivotal events in our nation's history.
