The game of solitaire is reputed to have been invented by a nobleman confined in the Bastille prison during the early years of the French Revolution. The game, played with 36 marbles, is similar to Chinese Checkers. The object is to eliminate all but one stone, which should ideally end up in the center of the game board. All of the marbles are mined, hand-cut, ground and polished by hand in Madagascar. The mahogany board with European layout, measures 9-3/4" in diameter. Includes 38 marbles made from at least 15 different semi-precious minerals such as malachite, azurite, quartz, bloodstone, amethyst and garnet. Guaranteed to make you think, and it's a handsome addition to your library or office.
