Wild turkeys are the largest native game birds in North America. They spend their days foraging for acorns, seeds, small insects and wild berries, and their nights roosting in the low branches of trees. In the spring, a male's physical appearance changes; his head turns a brilliant red, white and blue and he can often be seen puffed up, tail feathers fanned out and his wings dragging on the ground. This display is called strutting and the purpose of this exhibition is to attract hens for breeding.
This hand-cast sculpture in Montana Bronze (a proprietary blend of resin with pure pewter and bronze) depicts three gobblers in their courtship posture. The base is resin with a felt covered bottom. The artist's stamped signature is on top of base. Measures 11-3/4" x 8-1/2" x 12" and weighs approximately 19 lbs.
