This is a one-of-a-kind chest. The image of a bugling bull elk on the lid is created using a process known as marquetry, a technique where individually cut pieces of thin wood are fitted together to create a design or picture. This is an ancient craft developed in the 16th century and used extensively in 17th century France to create furniture of unprecedented luxury, including furniture for the royal residences of King Louis XIV.
This handcrafted box, utilizing a modern version of this technique, is designed as a jewelry box with spaces for cuff links and rings as well as dividers to separate chains, bracelets and other small pieces. The three divided drawers will also hold your collection of small items such as coins, conchos, or pen knives. The elk is created using forty-four individual pieces of seventeen unique, sustainable hardwoods with appropriate natural colors to depict the picture. The frame of the box is rubberwood. Other woods used include quilted big leaf maple, Pao Dao, celon satin wood, sugarberry, cherry, padauk, avodire, sepele, oriental wood, poplar and kawazinga.
Measures 10" x 12" x 6-1/4" overall. An original work of art, as no two are exactly alike. Each piece is hand signed in gold ink by the craftsman. Do not expose to direct sunlight for an extended period of time and clean with a damp cloth. Proudly made in the U.S.A.
